At last a guy has taken the time to write this all down Finally , the guys’ side of the story. (I must admit, it’s pretty good) We always hear “THE RULES” From the female side…. Now here are the rules from the male side. These are our rules! Please note.. these are all numbered “1 ” ON PURPOSE! 1. Men are NOT mind readers. (FIRST & FOREMOST RULE) 1. Learn to work the toilet seat. You’re a big girl. If it’s up, put it down. We need it up, you need it down. You don’t hear us complaining about you leaving it down. 1. Sunday sports, It’s like the full moon or the changing of the tides. Let it be. 1.. Crying is blackmail. 1. Ask for what you want. Let us be clear on this one: Subtle hints do not work! Strong hints do not work! Obvious hints do not work! Just say it! 1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question. 1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That’s what we do. Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for. 1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument. In fact, all comments become Null and void after 7 Days. 1. If you think you’re fat, you probably are. Don’t ask us. 1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the other one. 1. You can either ask us to do something Or tell us how you want it done. Not both. If you already know best how to do it , just do it yourself. 1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials.. 1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we. 1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings. Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have NO idea what mauve is. 1. If it itches, it WILL be scratched. We do that. 1. If we ask what is wrong and you say “nothing,” We will act like nothing’s wrong. We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.. 1. If you ask a question you don’t want an answer to, Expect an answer you don’t want to hear. 1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine… Really . 1. Don’t ask us what we’re thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as Football or Hockey. 1. You have enough clothes. 1. You have too many shoes. 1. I am in shape. ROUND IS a shape! Thank you for reading this. Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch tonight; But did you know men really don’t mind that? It’s like camping
Generally, I think natural is better(my opinion) not necessarily easier, but then again, if you want to wear it natural you'll develop the patience for it.
I'll begin with Relaxed hair.
To relax your hair, you have the option of texturizers, lye/no lye relaxers.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there really is no difference between all three, they contain pretty much the same ingredients, only milder doses, which is undone when your hair dresser leaves it in your hair long enough for it to hurt.
Note: if it begins to burn, your hair is suffering, and that means its gotten to the nerves.Thats a no-no.
So Lye vs no Lye relaxers:
Lye Relaxers contain Sodium Hydroxide. The chemical is so strong that it can also be found in drain cleaners. The strength of Sodium hydroxide varies from a pH factor of 10-14. The higher the ph, the straighter the hair will get. However, a greater value can also result in greater damage.
No-Ly Relaxer- The chemical used in No-Lye relaxers is guinidine hydroxide. "No-Lye" does not mean that there are no strong chemicals in the relaxer, it implies that the chemical is less threatening or less damaging to the hair. Even so, it is still very important to ensure that the hair is in good condition before a relaxer is applied. It is also very important to strictly apply the relaxer according to the instructions provided.
The Process
The chemicals in relaxers are strong and potent enough to literally transform the original structure of the hair shaft. The chemical accomplishes this by penetrating the cortex layer. The original curl pattern is then loosened or relaxed. The central layer of the hair shaft provides the hair with its shape, elasticity and strength. Therefore, after a relaxer is performed, it is irreparable. The optimum 'relaxed' state of your hair should still have some curl to it, it shouldnt be perfectly straight or your hair is in trouble, if you have 'negro hair' the health of your hair is in its elasticity. Hair relaxers may give the effect of straightened hair ; however, they also weaken the hair. it is, therefore, crucial that conditioners are used before and after a relaxer treatment is applied.
DO NOT PERM YOUR HAIR YOURSELF, EVER, i'll explain why
My hair for example has three different types of textures, therefore requires, not longer time to perm, but three different types of relaxers, you often hear people say, 'oh the back of my hair perms faster than the front, or the hair in front is weaker that the others', its because you are using one strength of relaxer all through your hair, thats a no-no.
Also, when you apply relaxers to your hair, you increase the PH of your scalp. These relaxers contain chemicals that can dissolve metal overtime, so dont mess around with your scalp!
These chemicals penetrate into layers of your skin to straighten your tightly curled hair, in the process it scrapes nutrients(proteins), thats why as soon as the relaxer is washed off, if you have a good hair stylists, they would condition your hair, immediately, it also involves going under the dryer, this is so that the proteins can seep into the ares that the relaxers has depleted.
Note: If you have a good stylist, he/she should have a folder for you. It should contain what your hair is like, what works and doesnt, etc. If you ever go to your stylists and they dont remember you, RUN!
Also Never apply relaxer on damaged or already weakened hair. A relaxer should never be applied before the recommended time frame or to already processed hair. Relaxers are only to be applied to new growth to prevent over-processing, which can result in the breakdown of the hair and potential hair breakage.
What should you put in your hair, conditioners, shampoo and creams.
How Do I make it Grow? (Permed and Natural)
Caucasians asians and negros( I hope no one is offended by that word, I apologize if you are) have different hair textures and require different mode of care, meaning, you cannot and should not use products for other hair types on yours.
The sebaceous gland in Caucasians and asains for example secrets more oil into their hair, so they usually have shampoos and conditioners to decrease the grease in their hair so it grows( the downside is of course they tend to over wash their hair and then it becomes brittle and dry) negro hair though is dry and needs oil, it needs to be oiled as often as possible.
I use the word oil, because you oil the scalp, and grease the hair.
Do not use wax on your scalp, because it clogs it up. Imagine if you will, a strand of hair trying to break out of waxed up scalp; oil goes into the pores and does its job(not too much). You want to use natural oils, like avocado oil, olive oil, jojoba oil etc.
2 Cut off Split Ends!!
Your hair works from the root out, feeding nutrients up, so that your hair is healthy.
Refering to the above image, see that when you have split ends, your hair is laboring to send nutrients all the way to the end thats already dead.
By cutting it off, you maintain healthy hair and thus your hair will grow.
3 As often as you can, Condition.
Conditioning isnt an evil word, and you ca do it at home. Its just to pamper your hair and help it out. Give it some protein once in a while.
Please read the instructions on your conditioner. I mentioned that after your perm, you condition, yea? You usually sit there for about 15-20minutes, but the conditioners dont begin to really seep in until about 3minutes into the process, therefore if you read on the label of your conditioner to leave it in for only 3minutes, you know that aint right!
I'll leave off here for now, up nextCurlers, hotcombs and even hand dryers, the myths vs the truths
I'm very fashion cautious, I do not ever want to be that girl that people shake their heads about like, "What the heck was she thinking ?"But are some trends that have caught my attention and I have chosen to dare them, also I'll like to share with you some designs i bumped into that
absolutely adore. So first off, folded pants
At first I thought I'd look like my pants shrunk or they are ill fitting, but I warily attempted it and loved it!
Make simple look good, make simple look sexy!
White Lace dress: I love it for its simplicity and class. I think a little white lace dress is cute.
Here are a couple of styles I bumped into from this years African designers fashion week
Have a great week, coming up next What not to wear! EVER!
Be-e covers food, fashion, music, life, love, everything under the sun
Today, we'll start off with Food! I love to cook, not so much eat, but I love to cook, and I have come up with random recipes such as Mint chicken, Coffee Chicken, Rummed Pork, etc
Today though I'd like to share my Banana Chicken Recipe with you.
This recipe was born when I was bored one afternoon and couldnt decide on lunch, I actually wanted breaded chicken but I didnt see the point of laboring so hard for one piece of chicken!
These are the ingredients required for this recipe:
Bananas, a glass of milk, chicken, dijon mustard, onions(garlic) chilli peppers, lemon juice, nutmeg, curry(for a darker yellow), and thyme. You do not necessarily have to use the exact spices, i use the mustard because it has thing odd spice, like wasabi meets ginger, chilli because i like my food somewhat spicy and milk to loosen the thickness of the banana puree, you can use cream or yogurt if you please.
First you mash up the bananas and squirt a little of the mustard in it,(you dont need a lot of mustard, its spicy and you dont want it to overwhelm the rest of the flavours)
Then in a pan, melt a spoonful of butter
when its melted, pour in your chopped onions, and leave them till they begin to brown.
After your onions brown you, you toss in your diced up chicken breast, you dont want it to cook entirely before you add the mashed up bananas.
Unfortunately I was taking these pictures with my phone and my mother called, so I'll fill in the blanks.
Pour in the milk and the mashed up bananas and stir it in, because you want the flavour of the milk and banana in your chicken.
After this you add your spices, ginger, black pepper, oregano, curry, thyme, whatever suits you, not too much, or it'll take out the flavour of the bananas.
Also, you dont want to add too much cream or milk or yogurt or it'll turn the sweet from the bananas to sour, before you know it!
All these bring us to
Boiled some rice and Voila!
Hope you enjoy it! If you have any questions or would like me to feature anything for you, enter it in in the comment box
Let me start by saying, that at this very moment, I'm not so hyped about my birthday, and believe me I'm trying! hopefully when I sleep and wake up, I'll be 'me' again! But Damn I have so much to be grateful for!! No show boating but dang! I have achieved a bunch of stuff that even though may not be as perfect as I would like, but what is life without some downs in a Glorious UP story that happens to be my life. I have ran associations, been honored and distinguished even put in hall of fames, have written a book and working on two now, have a title to my name, a mentor, pheonenal sister(a), girlfriend( you know its true)!, n now a director, sigh! to list a few! :D This year, is the first that I cannot figure out what to get myself I dont want shoes, I dont perfumes(things I can never have enough of!), I would like a publisher tho :) So I have decided to write myself a note, a personal pat on the shoulder, morality boost, watever! I'll share a little of it here :) Miss Bee.... "..You are my competition, my only competition, because you somehow always set the bar higher, you dont let me rest with mediocre (although sweet) accolades, no matter what knocks me down, you get up dust it off and keep running, you encourage me, you inspire me, you make me want to be better. Thanks to you i dont settle for the average. Girl you're tough, from the way you carry yourself to your dreams and aspirations even to your relationships, you never let me settle, like, its the best or nothing!I love you-- I love you because you have this drive, this crazy energy, this passion and I love you for it. You do everything from your heart with love and care and patience, I've heard people say you're too nice, too giving, too trusting, but I've watched you closely n you aint no fool, you just someone with a big heart! I love you because you dont let anything bother you, you're the only one that I know with a three minute limit to anger, you are my proverbs 31 woman, thru and thru. I bless you that in ALL that you do, you will excel, in all your ways, you'll succeed. You have taught me so much, and empowered me to be the woman I am today. I thank God for your life, I thank God for your wonderful parents and sibling who have moulded, inspired and encouraged you to be every inch of who you are! I thank your friends for always being there. Of cus shout outs goes to the 'Mr' thanks for who you are and coming right on time! Thank you so much BEE" I wish you a very very happy birthday! Love you!
Ok, its 1 am June 16th and I think I just caught the birthday bug. So far I have been very pessimistic about my birthday, only because in recent years I have learnt the hard way that expectation=disappointments, so this year, I have none I dont care if I get a cake, I dont care, if I get gifts, I'm blank Before 'recent years' I didnt have expectations for my birthday, of course I got gifts from my parents, and a lil sm sm from uncles and stuff and it was kool please dont get me wrong, but something ALWAYS seems to go wrong on my birthday that ends up just upsetting me and the flicker of happiness vanishes. Say, in Nigeria, it always rained, I'm serious, from the day i was born, to the day I was named, till when I left, it rained, and not ok its raining outside kinda rain, I mean there is no way I'm leaving my house for nothing kinda rain! Then Canada, where do I begin, freeloaders? Competition?, like who has to compete with convocations? How do you compete with that, EVERY year someone is planning a 'yippee look at me, i just graduated BBQ' I further find it funny when people, try to hype me into feeling better, or accuse me of being pessimistic, when you get 3 unhappy birthdays in a row, Hola @ ur girl ok?! It doesnt bother me, but I think I am entitled to one happy birthday. I'm not asking for a lot am I? But for some odd reason, laying on my bed right now, I feel a little glimmer, a little buzz, 'My Birthday IS coming up' And one way or another, I will have fun even if i lay on my bed and watch re-runs of my fav shows(which seems to be my plan right now), I will have fun! But if could wish anything this birthday, and I have a truck load of wishes!, I'd wish to be happy. Please feel free to share happy/ sad, weird, funny birthday experiences! :)
Okay, I am sorry for not writing anything in ages. I really am so sorry. Time just seems to fly by and there seem to be not a lot of hours in the day! Plus twitter has a little blame here. Twitter is like the mistress to my facebook and my blog, and I am so sorry for cheating. That being said I'l like to introduce you to a new thing i would like to try, taking a cue from Myne Whitman i would like to do an interactive story, so I start a story with a couple of characters and you follow up and take whatever creative turns you deem fit! I've missed blogging so much, even though not so evident by my infrequent postings :( I dont even know where to start! I guess I'll just keep it simple today! Say I'm back, leave you with a lil sm' and promise to be back soon!
"Not Again"
"Oh no!" "Not again!" I cried. "I told you he was a two timing thief. See" she said pointing at my boyfriend and the girl in the diner. My bloodthirsty girlfriends, in the car with me. "If I were you I will show them pepper. The nerve!" Another said "In broad daylight? They have no shame!" another hissed. I had to think. It had to be a business meeting, I rationalized. "Maybe it isn’t what we are thinking. Maybe she is his friend from work." I said "Friend osi wo? lati bo?"Funke snapped You see, Funke was a fiery person. In my opinion, a whole lot of talk no action. Recently divorced, highly bitter. "wo, you are too soft, Bunmi. It’s irritating me!" she shook in a way that made her gigatic bosoms wiggle. "If you want to fight Funke, go to the market!" Sade said Sade, a warrior in a different field. Not a lot of words, but volumes of action " do you know who she is? Have you seen her before?" she said lighting up cigarette. "Oo-oh all this is English! I say we go there and find out ourselves" 'Oh, Lord, how did I end up with friends like these?' I thought to myself. Ireti, now her, was demented. I met her through Sade and Funke. Sade, Funke, Kemi and I all went to the same school. We had been friends since high school. "omo, didirin ni e oh! Ja lo men!" " what are doing here in this car? If you no wan get down sort this babe out me I go do am for you oh!" Ireti fumed "tell her oh, at least someone is on the same page as I am!" Funke bobbed nudging my headrest. My head was aching. I didn’t want to confront anyone. I wasn’t in the mood for a fight; the plan had been to go to the mall. Why this petrol station. Why did I even leave my house? "Kemi do you have any advice?" Error! Error! Error! I shouldn’t have asked Kemi. She was a lawyer, a very Martin Luther kind of lawyer. "Bunmi, how many times are you going to find your man cheating on you before you know that its time to teach him a lesson?" "how long for us all? My dear what better time than now? These men! They think of us as their toys and their slaves. My friends I tell you, this most end and its going to start with this one!" "Funke, Ireti, Sade, ja a lo!" she rallied the troupe. They removed their earrings and bracelets, hungry for a fight "you guys now, chill small. What if.. "What if kini, we have been sitting here for how long? Hmm, answer now? For what? Bunmi see if you don’t stand up for this one thing all theses dudes would keep playing you, we are your friends we cant sit here and watch this injustice" kemi said soothingly. "she is right, I mean c’mon, how long is this going to go on for. We are here and we are going to stand by you."sade continued. We got out the car. I was still unsure about the whole thing, at least before he bent to kiss her "oh hell no!" my rage was on "uh hmm, that’s what I want to here! Let’s tear that mother* down!" sade cried "asawo!’ ireti called from the door Oh it was on, my girlfriends at the table before me, the one whose man was cheating! "Your secret is out!" there was no stopping Ireti "Dayo you have anything to say about this?" I asked as calmly as I could. "ma bere! Olosi ni!" Sade pushed his head. "and you, hello " Funke’s game was on "there’s no need for all this embarrassment, Bunmi, we can talk about this in a more civilized way. It doesn’t have to be like this." Dayo attempted to explain. "Bunmi I am warning you and your girls to stop all this nonsense now, I am being very patient but it would run out soon."he said " let it run out now, do the worst you can do" Sade grabbed the jug of water on the table and poured it on him. "now get angry, I dare you" she smirked. "Bunmi, Bunmi!, get your girls and quietly leave. I am warning you!" his voice rising a notch. ‘Excuse me, can you please get out, you are being rude’ the girl said "Is that right? you can still open your mouth to be pho-ne-ing for me." Funke slapped her hard across her face "ok that’s it, Bunmi leave now!" Dayo bellowed. People in the diner had been watching the drama without intervention, but the whole thing was going too far. "excuse me, ladies. This isn’t the place for this kind of thing, if you want to fight please leave" "What did you say? Who called you into this? When he was cheating and kissing her and all that nonsense, it wasn’t the place?" She stood up to the manager. "Listen, go get a napkin and clean some tables or something, just stay out of this okay!" Behind her, Funke was on another round of slaps, only God knows what the girl had said to her, but she fumed, her nostrils flaring. "okay, that’s enough! Get out now!" "We are not going anywhere!" "security! Security!" I knew I should have stayed at home, nothing confirmed my suspicions than the three beefy men that stood behind me. I turned slowly, to see that they were indeed the security guards. I would never forget the knock that landed on my head, plus the fact that I cried out a rather loud ‘Jesus!!’ The next five minutes went in a blur. As slaps greeted knocks and whipping. I knew I should have stayed at home. I ran as fast as I could as one security guard whipped my back ‘My god!’ the koboko had like five whips Sade and kemi were in the car in a flash. I was still struggling to escape my assailant. why me? I didn’t even say much, I wondered as I ran. Eventually I got into the car. My back brutally bruised. "Bunmi, Bunmi! Chai, this babe can sleep! We are going to stop for some petrol." Kemi said "hmm, didn’t we just get petrol?" I asked dizzily "Ah ah Bunmi, you really slept ey!"sade laughed 'Thank God that was a dream' I thought. We pulled into the petrol station. Ireti flirting with the man in the car next to ours. I could swear that the girl wasn’t normal. "come oh, Bunmi. No be you bobo dey der so?" Funke asked "na im ! who be that? shooo Bunmi come see, your bobo dey cheat!" ‘oh no" "Not again!" I cried.
Ok so exams have got me not blogging and after exams I wanna challenge myself to complete two novels in 5weeks, so I apologize in advance. Today tho was fun at church as usual, and I get home and my dad calls and we are just gisting and laffing and thinking throwback stuff Which kinda got me into this playlist thing, so I'm going to just put in all up on here and I hope you guys experienced these songs when you were kids and it makes you recall, dancing chairs, dancing competitions and stuff!
Omg, i danced to this song in high school!
I miss Aaliyah!
N the song that made Destiny's Child(if you do not believe, listen to the original song)
Ok, gotta stop here, but if you like this playlist lemmi know, n i cud do this more often, after writing I love music and if I dont stop now, I'll have a page full! ##Best wishes to all writing exams! Hope I made you dance!
I wish the skies would darken and the sun fall asleep I wish the thunder screams for me and the skies cry my tears I wish you'd go away and never come back Yes, go away and dont look back I wish I could go into yesterday and yank you out I wish I never met you I feel a chill up to my spine and I know its not the winds outside Its the tears i refuse to cry over you the hurt I refuse to acknowledge The shabby life you have left me with What once used to be called happy What once used to be called love all gone in the twinkle of an eye I wish I could go into yesterday and yank you out I wish the rain would fall and cry the tears I refuse to cry
Its twitters fault! that's all I can say, I haven't blogged cus I have been twitting, and I do not know if its tweeting or twitting! But I'm back, the semester is almost done! I cant wait to continue writing my second novel, "something Blue" Ever heard the line, 'It's not you, It's me'?. I think in its own capacity its actually a very true statement, albeit not what you would like to hear at the time its being said, but I've used it a couple of times and meant it! The Break up! I find them interesting, and I hurt for those people who've had nasty break-ups, like pele! Its sad, I hate it when guys or girls who used to be in love and send every text with 'hey baby' and 'sweetie' suddenly turn and act that cus ur experiencing a low ur suddenly as foul as a skunk! Like c'mon now! Ive heard of horrible break ups, like Godzilla boyfriends and girlfriends! Why do people break up even? I dont understand anymore, it seems as though relationships have turned to flavors of ice cream! Every time you go to the store you want to try a new one! I dont get break ups, funny cus I have broken up wiv a number of ppl, so before I come across sounding like a hypocrite i'll explain why. I either broke up with them because as friends we were chill but if we ventured to relationship, it was just funny and awkward!cus we wer like brother n sister, broke up again, cus we wer too similar, damn, like thinking bout it makes me want to pull my hair, I'm happy go lucky, get excited bout stuff, n he was too, can u imagine both of us gisting bout our day, "no hunnie, shush, lemmi talk!" and interrupting during conversations! yo, i was created to marry a quiet man, freal! and then again, cus we or rather I was moving far away and at that time, long distance relationships? ow heck naw!! And in some instances it was me and not them!It really was! I just wasnt a that place where if we continued, the way we were, on, two, three years down the line and they asked me to marry them, I couldnt say yes! I just dindt see them that way and to be honest I decided then that thats how I'll take all my relationships. You know, sometimes ppl end up in relationships simply because! He is there, he likes me, oh well, and then sometime later you think, oh this isnt fair, i really dont care, and so lets wrap this up! its not fair to the other party. They actually liked you from green light and they find it hard to understand the sudden conscience hunt. And then bad enuf as it is some of these ppl go off! Like get soo irritated during break ups like this person wasnt once the love of your life, or someone you even slightly tolerated and I dont get that, and I hear ppl say(when they wanna start a new relationship) 'well my ex said the same thing you're saying but he hurt me so bad and now I cant trust you!" and that pisses me off! I think the only thing that I cannot tolerate is infidelity, like I dont know, there best be a good excuse, like rape or sm! lmao, but I just cant, I think its disrespectful and I am a huge respect person, so I couldnt, wouldnt , I dont know! Do you think im irrational?! HAve you ever used it before, or even had a Godzilla kinda break up P.s some ppl need that Godzilla kind of break up tho, like c'mon naw, they stalk you and things! You ever had a stalker before? Shoot, Ive had one of my near relationships just become something else, like there was nothing I dint say, this guy wouldnt free me, until I ended up not picking his calls, not replying anything, just cut him out, n that ....STILL didnt work! lol lemmi know what you think!
Ok, so I did it I joined twitter... shut up! Dont judge me, I know I have commented on ppls postings about how I'll never EVER join, but before you eat me up lemmi explain. So yesterday, my friend n I r in the lib n then she goes on twitter, n I was like 'nah uh, we'r spose to be studying no twitting' n she was like , 'hold the phone, are you on twitter?' n I was like, 'heavens no!' N she asked why So I began to elaborate on how I thot it was just a waste of time and silly and not as fun as ppl make it out to be Little did I know that as I was huffing and puffing she was signing me up for twitter. When I was done, she scribbled a word on a sheet of paper n I was like 'what is this?' n she shrugged and replied, 'ur password.' HA ha ha, i laffed, and said 'no point, I'll never log on' But to my shame and horror curiosity got the better of me and I logged on, just to see Just to see Sob N now( about 52 hrs later , i have made over a 100 tweets) Sob Facebook has lost its shine, I actually want to tweet... Sob, somebody help me! I couldnt even blog for a hot minute because my twitter tab was showing that I had new msgs and I didnt want to ignore them TWITTER BE CURSED!!! Oh by the way, if ur on twitter just leave ur name n ima find u!
Everything's in red! Hearts and cupids, flowers and pretty pretty things everywhere! I feel like this is one of those 'Scribbles' moment meets a Nigerian movie commercial I'm beginning to get tired of the fanfare and noise attached to this day even Pathetic more is the fact that I have to be at work on that good day. And I absolutely refuse to write anything romantic this year!! Every year, I get an influx of mails, people asking me to express their love for them in poetry but every year I never write a poem for my special someone, cus one way or the other I end up single on valentines(and I blame you poem sucking lovers!!), and I have no problem helping people express their love in words, but this year, I'm On Strike! and it feels good, so there you go, if you're in love listen to D'bangs 'Fall in love' and scribble the lyrics down! Frealz tho It is my sincere intention to reveal to you, the realities of Valentines day I don't think Valentines is an evil, I think the commercialization of a beautiful occasion is the evil. I think its a necessary day to celebrate love, and I'm tired of people saying, well why cant we celebrate our love everyday, psffff!people who say that are either broke, or fear rejection! I think its important that every couple have a valentines day, not necessarily the 14th, but one day, or days in the year, where you BOTH decide that you are going to be over the top, loving and affectionate(not like you don't already do this, but who are we fooling, with school, work, kids, somehow if that date isn't already preset, you'll never have time for each other.) But as the world has made a big deal about the 14, then its world love day! Like world aids day or mother's day, you cant really choose not to participate, you'll just look bad. And how about the guys? Am I the only one that doesnt understand why a guy is a jerk if he doesnt go all out, perfumes and candy, poetry and expensive dinners? Like its not fair, I dont know any store promoting an item for him, unless guys started cuddling ginormous teddy bears and they didnt tell me....no one is promoting the concept of 'him' and the few that do, sell pathetic, tired looking shirts and ties that clearly say, 'ok, ok, just so you wouldn't nag her that you spent so much money, here's a lil sm' SO what are you up to this valentines? I want to do something quiet, endlessly romantic, fun, special, and did I say quiet. I think its the quiet stuff that makes it special, at least for me DISCLAIMER***: This doesn't mean that if you have gone all out to get me the chocolates and flowers and things that you shouldn't bring it on one knee with a boys to men song playing in the background in a preferably candle lit room(refer to the Keg, Applebees or Red lobster!) No! I like quiet, but i could do dinner and stuff, that can be worked in! Just putting it out there! But I'd much rather a favorite movie of mine or his, even though we've seen it a thousand and one times, and dinner, maybe a poem in there, maybe Do you know that poetry written by 'non-poets' are the cutest things ever! Only because its very sincere and honest and lacks all the unnecessary frills poets put on things like 'hips like the dunes of the Sahara' or 'voice like the Nile'.. lol Lemme know what you guys think.. what are you planning to do this valentines, whats on your wish list? Do you believe in the Vals day massacre? Tell Tell!!
I'm playing with Fire and I cant stop I see the flames but its kinda fun! You know how you strike a match and watch it burn to the tip and quickly shake your hand before it gets to the tip of your fingers? But has it ever happened that you got so caught up in watching the flames burn that you forgot the plan and it burnt the tip of your finger? Thats where we are stuck Having so much fun watching it burn that it just might get to the tip of our fingers before we realize Listen now! Not the fire that dances back, giggling as you slide your fingers through it from left to right Yes, Candle light reciprocates love, yes you make like a cave with your hands and watch it dance around with your fingers you sentence it to death but still this meek, playful candle can turn Judas on you leave it unwatched, unmonitored and the once playful flames roar up like lions and consume all that you have, maybe you too. We are playing with fire and we know it! Tipping dangerously to the edge of the rim I advice that we stop now, before it consumes us!!! My patience with Nigeria is beginning to wear President is missing, is he dead? We dont know? How is it possible that we have a president so ill in the first place? Dont they do health checks and things? Its embarrassing Nigeria is playing with fire and i wish she'd stop Theres an extent to how much our neighbourhood, Africa can tolerate or even the rest of the world President is issuing a statement to BBC when AIT and NTA have not seen his break lights? Senators are in the news, naked in shrines holding human heads COMMON NOW! I'm not sm1 to nag or complain i dont like it, but I'm tired! Banks in confused state, can you imagine this A bank exec steals money and runs away, but then the police arrest the poor ppl that worked under him, sayin, 'when he returns with the money, we'll release you' Thats not fair, but its the system Governors stashing up their accounts while their state suffers, no education, no amenities, no defence. My friend always says Nigeria has been molested raped and beaten up She's in a bad bad bad marriage and even if she got divorced today it would take years of therapy to get her sanity back. I'm tired of making jokes about the legal system, education, amenities.... Nigeria is playing with fire and I wish she'd stop Only now did ppl begin to trust her, maybe she's not all 419 after all and e-mail scams Oh but what happens Some goat head goes to stash knock out in his underwear! Now they've added terrorist to her already long list of names I wish she'd stop I keep fighting for her, but I'm beginnig to doubt that she wants that Dehumanizing experiences i face whenever I want to travel, and can I complain? I wish she'd stop Religious riots in Jos.... EFCC files Waziri lost Oil money lost to Oversea Accounts I wish she'd stop so future generations can have a chance
So here I am....... typing up my first post for the year, when i get a phone call that I have been honored on a blog Can u imagine that? lilol me! which brings me to say :But I only Just started! I made a copy of the blog only because of this semi-anonymity game that I'm still playing 2010 only just started and I LOVE IT I made the decision to move the character in my novel to an imaginary town....whoever said writing about what you know is easy, LIED, The performances for the charity event that I'm organising are awesome!!AWESOME all but the weather actually in my life.....is AWESOME I'm excited for the year...and this time I made no resolutions! Following last year, I made no resolutions, but detailed plans as to how I'd like to accomplish my goals for the year n that worked out beyond my expectations k...so here's a summary of the story ttyl!!!
"(MMR) is one of the most gifted African Speakers & Writers of our generation. This ** year old(smile) is a native of Ogun State, Nigeria; and an Undergraduate Student of Marketing of the U of W. Dont be deceived by her petite stature, (which is probably & literally the smallest thing about her), she is a very friendly, highly opinionated young Lady. Also a trailblazer, high achiever and go-getter. To her nothing is impossible. Right from middle and high school in VFMC, she was the first & only Day Student Senior Perfect; and an outstanding Scholar. She is presently the President of The U of W's African Union, and recently dubbed the title of Competent Communicator (CC) by Toastmasters International."
Cant believe '09 is gone like, I remember the 31st of '08, the anxiety of what 09 was going to bring and now, the same butterflies float in my belly for the upcoming year. I must say tho, I love my life I love 09 In, 09 I stepped into my life. I completed my first novel, became the President of the African students Association at my university, secured a position in the Toastmasters International Hall of Fame, got the recognition of my school of business, became a leader at church and figured out what i wanted my blog to be about...sigh So I'm not anxious in the fear of the unknown, its more like how much more can I accomplish! I feel like I'm siting on top of a roller coaster, like the behemoth, just waiting for it to drop In other news, i bumped into my diary A diary that I started when i was 13, till I was bout 18 lol My 13 year old self was soo cute, I miss her I wish she could remain so cute and things, but life happens I found my 13-18 year old self, interestingly interesting if I am allowed to say that and I can code damn! It took me a minute n half to figure out some of the things that I wrote! lol and I had funny slangs like 'shishi' meaning something hmm, i might just reuse it in '10 I found my diary an amazingly interesting read, I could feel the sand in my toes in parts and hear the pain in others, the laughter and the tears, so much so that I want to begin the habit all over again Writing my brain on a sheet of paper my heart in a locked book. Revisit myself from time to time. I impressed myself immensely with my writings so much so that I even thought of writing a diary novel or sorts, of course my characters would be pure fiction, but it was such a fun read! Do you keep diaries? Have you ever gone back to read them? if you havent please try it, write yourself a note or a poem and go back and read it when you're 50 I think its pure bliss. And I dont mean to restate the already stated but I feel like my diary is me preserved I mean, my loves, my laughs, my tears, my commitments Funny, I'll quote something I wrote "... I've always had dreams of being big, I mean, achieving great things, see now I'm the head girl, after this, I dont think the corporate world can be so hard to overtake! Anywaiz(been saying that for years now!)If that doesnt work out, I would like to be an author, interior decorator, fashion designer, marketing manager, like a p. diddy merged with a jay z, kinda thing, sigh that was a mouthful! Seriously I would love to do all these things I love now, but most importantly I want to care, I want to help people, be someone people can talk to, and call on for help, dependable and trustworthy, CEO or not. Now you listen to me, older Devine reading this, I most sincerely do not want to read this years from now and feel sad or ashamed because I totally deviated or lost interest in doing these things especially if its for monetary reasons..." HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL THANKS FOR BEING HERE ALL OF '09, IF NOT FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND 'FOLLOWER SHIP' LOL...I DOUBT I'D BE BLOGGING NOW. THANKS GUYS!

Hi guys
I'm soo sorry, I went away for long
2 posts in November, sigh.
I'm so ashamed
I wish I could blame twitter but I'm still anti-twitter, its that or facebook, and I'm sticking to the more mordern, less perverted, Hi-5!
Been seeing a lot of movies lately, I'm not really a t.v person and even less a movie person, but I'm liking the new experience, watching movies in my spare time is fun, havent quiet gotten the t.v part yet. So please feel free to tell me what you think the best shows on t.v are, got 2weeks of 'not-much' to do, and spending the holidays alone.
Yes, alone!
Why does everyone act like spending Christmas alone is such a huge deal!
I mean all the movies on t.v suck, practically everywhere is closed, especially if you live in the middle of no where like me!
Ok, it does get boring, but I still like it.
N no, I'm not a saddist, but 'the holidays' is about the only time in the year I get to be alone, in my head, just me, reflecting, chilling, and I like it.!
This year though I've got work to do!
I'm challenging myself to finish my novel, 'Something Blu', before the winter semester begins, i.e 2weeks.
I only just started and I'm not rushing to meet any deadline, I'm just pushing myself a little and seeing if I'll tip over
:)
There's no person better to challenge you than yourself, I say!
Another smiley face!
Thats the plan, write, watch suggested t.v shpws, go see movies, eat, write, blah blah blah.
So, here's a lil bit from my novel, Something Blue, enjoy!!
BTW, starting up a new blog in 2010, for my writings, songs, poetry, short stories, etc, if you'd like to join me, e-mail, be_e@hotmail.com
That said, enjoy!
~SOMETHING BLUE~
She sat facing the charts in an otherwise bland and sterile looking room.
The nurse smiled at her, the way nurses do, overly pleasant, knowing the worst but faking care and reassurance.
“The doctor will be with you shortly” she smiled again
“Please take off your garments and put this on.”
Morenike really hadn’t intended on being rude by hissing, she just thought it bothersome that after she’d taken her time to actually look good, she had to get naked.
“Oh well, maybe not everything” the nurse forced a laugh.
Maybe it wasn’t forced, maybe Morenike was just irritated, maybe it was because Aunt Bunmi had called 'them', nurses, doctors, lawyers, all white people in fact, a bunch of slithering snakes.
“Ah, they will just kill you! Like that” Aunt Bunmi would snap her fingers.
“Me, I don’t trust them, oh.” She’d continue.
Morenike sighed, wondering why the woman thought it necessary to begin or end her sentences with, ah’s, oh’s, shebi and the thousands of other Yoruba sayings that had absolutely no meaning.
“Madam?”
“Huh?”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m in a hospital, figure it out!”
Did she imagine a pained expression or was this oyinbo woman trying to make her feel bad?
“I said, you can leave your shirt on, but please take off your underwear, both of them.”
The smile was gone. Aunty Bunmi was right.
She shut the door as Morenike began to take her clothes off.
She sat on the cold leathery bed, her bare bum on the thin paper lining.
“Good afternoon, Miss Morenike!” the doctor walked in, with the same smile.
Morenike hissed again, “It’s Mo-reh-ni-keh, not more-nike!”
“If you don’t know how to pronounce a name, don’t or ask.”
“I’m so sorry” she rushed, staring at the chart like the name would explain itself.
Now it was Morenike’s turn to fake a smile and say, "It’s okay, it’s a Nigerian name. What’s your name?”
“Roseanne. Dr Roseanne Belford.” She smiled, not plastic, but a genuine smile that hoped they could start over.
“So Moh-rey-ni-kay, I see you would like to have a physical done. When was you last physical?”
Morenike chuckled, she still didn't say it right, but she gave her points for trying.
“When I applied for a visa.”
Three years on Wednesday.
“And when was that?”
“Two years and some.”
“Okay.”
“I’m just going to run you through some quick questions, before we begin, okay?”
Morenike chuckled again.
What if she said no?
“Sure.”
Dr Belford went ahead to ask a survey-worth of questions, ending just as Morenike became irritable.
“Okay!” she smiled, shutting the green folder and pulling a blue one out.
“This is for whatever information I gather from your body” she said answering Morenike’s unspoken question.
“So Morenike, how do you like Canada so far?”
“I can’t complain.”
Dr Belford stopped as if taken aback by her response.
“I mean its okay.”
“But you like Nigeria more, don’t you?”
Morenike rolled her eyes. Attempting to make conversation while a woman massaged her breasts was making her uncomfortable.
“Yea, I like it more.”
“Okay Morenike, what I’d like you to do for me is slide down and place your head on the rest, there.”
“Exactly. Thank you.”
Morenike tried to think of random thoughts as the doctor opened and closed cabinets.
“Are you sexually active, Morenike?”
She pronounced it this time as More-nikeh, wedging the ‘reh’ to the ‘n’as if it was a vowel.
More that concerned her than her mispronounced name, was the question.
Now the term seemed stupid to her.
‘Sexually active’, like it was a usual verb like, walk, or sit.
Her tongue stuck to the roof of her mouth, hanging there as if fearing to reply.
It’d been raining that night Aunt Bunmi crept in her room, saying, “You want visa, yes?”
She’d been to happy, too eager, Morenike should have known.
She sat up as Aunt Bunmi held the lantern up to her face.
“Well, if you want to travel, eh, you have to play a little game for Aunty.”
Morenike was sixteen and didn't need to be pacified.
“Aunty Bunmi, what is it?”
“I’m doing this for you, because I love you oh!”
What she didn't include was that her father had trusted her with more than enough for her to school abroad but she’d spent it all.
She held the lantern higher and as the light spread further, Morenike saw him, lurking in the shadows.
Aunt Bunmi was smiling again, that selfish smile she had when she was extremely satisfied with herself.
Morenike had begged, screamed and clawed to no avail.
Lying on Dr Belford’s bed, she could hear his grunts and feel his clammy, sweaty body on her.
A month later, she was on a plane to Canada.
“Morenike?”
“Yes?”
“Are you sexually active?”
“Yes, no! Maybe, no!”
Dr Belford frowned.
“Have you had sexual intercourse before?”
Morenike sighed, “Yes.”
“Okay.”
Dr Belford spread her legs apart and frowned at, what her gym teacher had called ‘down there’ as her cheeks turned pink.
Morenike felt a slight sense of panic but mostly pain as Dr Belford slid something into her.
“Ops, sorry. Seems like there’s been no activity here for a while” she chuckled from down there.
Morenike frowned.
No activity there for a while, was it a bus stop? Or did men sign their names on the wall?
It was becoming an unbearably embarrassing day.
“Morenike?”
“Uh huh?”
“When was your last period?”
“I don’t remember.”
“When was your last sexual encounter?”
Another term, ‘sexual encounter’, like she bumped into it at the flea market.
“About a month ago, why?”
“Hmm.” Was all she said.
“Hmm?” Morenike repeated.
“Morenike, I’m going to ask you to do a pregnancy test for me, okay?”
Morenike found it funny, how she said, ‘for me’ like she was the one who had to take the test.
“Sure!”
She’d taken one before. She knew the procedure.
They made her take them, whenever she reported missed periods
“Just to be sure” they’d say.
And every time she took one, she felt that dual emotion, the one where you know you’ve done nothing that could make you pregnant, but what if?
“We are done here!” she took off her gloves and smiled.
“All you have to do, is go to the bathroom, give it to the nurse at the desk and come back here. It takes five minutes, okay?” another smile
She reminded her of a toothpaste billboard in Lagos, just as you got off the third mainland bridge. Over-smiling for free toothpaste, Aunt Bunmi said.
“Where’s the bathroom?”
“Down the hall, on your right”
“Okay”.
Her heart violently trembled in its cage as she walked down the hall.
Had it really been a month ago, since she had to attach the sticky end of a towel to her underwear?
Had it really been a month since she’d seen him?
She’d filled up the little plastic container, the nurses hated it when she did.
'What ifs?' Like the little butterflies that land on her palm in summer, flew past her ears.
Morenike shrugged them off as she washed her hands.
She handed the nurse the container, “Dr Belford said I should give you.”
“Me?”
Morenike smiled, “not you in particular, she sad a nurse.”
The nurse wrinkled her nose, “This is way too much, we only need a little.”
“I know.” Morenike smiled back.
It was the longest five minutes of her life, in which she re-examined every detail of that night.
Bethany, the girl that lived across the hall had knocked on her door.
She’d been making palm oil stew. She wiped her hands on her apron as she stared through the peephole.
“Hi, Beth”.
“Hey, Nike!”
She remembered the first day she told Bethany her name, she’d replied with a puzzled expression, “Why are you named after a sports brand?”
She usually tolerated Beth’s company but tonight, all she wanted was to crawl up on her sofa and watch a Nigerian movie.
“Nike, I need to a favour. Can my friend sleep over at you place till my cousin’s wedding on Saturday?” she quickly said.
Why couldn’t Beth be a ‘can I borrow sugar?’ neighbour?
“Please, Nike. I’d like owe you forever and ever.”
“Oyinbo people sha” she said with a smile.
“Look at you half oyinbo!” Beth laughed.
Pronouncing it as if the ‘n’ wasn’t there.
“Sure, but only till Saturday”
“Oh, Nike, have I ever told you how much I love you?”
“I’m going to pick him up from the bus station in half an hour, thank you!”
“Him?” the blood drained from her face.
“Oh, and save me some of the red oil stew.” She blew her a kiss and scurried into her apartment.
