TWITTER BE CURSED

Ok, so I did it
I joined twitter...
shut up! Dont judge me, I know I have commented on ppls postings about how I'll never EVER join, but before you eat me up lemmi explain.
So yesterday, my friend n I r in the lib n then she goes on twitter, n I was like 'nah uh, we'r spose to be studying no twitting'
n she was like , 'hold the phone, are you on twitter?'
n I was like, 'heavens no!'
N she asked why
So I began to elaborate on how I thot it was just a waste of time and silly and not as fun as ppl make it out to be
Little did I know that as I was huffing and puffing she was signing me up for twitter.
When I was done, she scribbled a word on a sheet of paper n I was like 'what is this?'
n she shrugged and replied, 'ur password.'
HA ha ha, i laffed, and said 'no point, I'll never log on'
But to my shame and horror curiosity got the better of me and I logged on, just to see
Just to see
Sob
N now( about 52 hrs later , i have made over a 100 tweets)
Sob
Facebook has lost its shine, I actually want to tweet...
Sob, somebody help me!
I couldnt even blog for a hot minute because my twitter tab was showing that I had new msgs and I didnt want to ignore them

Valentine's Day Massacre

Everything's in red!
Hearts and cupids, flowers and pretty pretty things everywhere!
I feel like this is one of those 'Scribbles' moment meets a Nigerian movie commercial
I'm beginning to get tired of the fanfare and noise attached to this day even
Pathetic more is the fact that I have to be at work on that good day.
And I absolutely refuse to write anything romantic this year!!
Every year, I get an influx of mails, people asking me to express their love for them in poetry but every year I never write a poem for my special someone, cus one way or the other I end up single on valentines(and I blame you poem sucking lovers!!), and I have no problem helping people express their love in words, but this year, I'm On Strike! and it feels good, so there you go, if you're in love listen to D'bangs 'Fall in love' and scribble the lyrics down!
Frealz tho
It is my sincere intention to reveal to you, the realities of Valentines day
I don't think Valentines is an evil, I think the commercialization of a beautiful occasion is the evil.
I think its a necessary day to celebrate love, and I'm tired of people saying, well why cant we celebrate our love everyday, psffff!people who say that are either broke, or fear rejection!
I think its important that every couple have a valentines day, not necessarily the 14th, but one day, or days in the year, where you BOTH decide that you are going to be over the top, loving and affectionate(not like you don't already do this, but who are we fooling, with school, work, kids, somehow if that date isn't already preset, you'll never have time for each other.)
But as the world has made a big deal about the 14, then its world love day!
Like world aids day or mother's day, you cant really choose not to participate, you'll just look bad.
And how about the guys?
Am I the only one that doesnt understand why a guy is a jerk if he doesnt go all out, perfumes and candy, poetry and expensive dinners?
Like its not fair, I dont know any store promoting an item for him, unless guys started cuddling ginormous teddy bears and they didnt tell me....no one is promoting the concept of 'him' and the few that do, sell pathetic, tired looking shirts and ties that clearly say, 'ok, ok, just so you wouldn't nag her that you spent so much money, here's a lil sm'
SO what are you up to this valentines?
I want to do something quiet, endlessly romantic, fun, special, and did I say quiet.
I think its the quiet stuff that makes it special, at least for me
DISCLAIMER***: This doesn't mean that if you have gone all out to get me the chocolates and flowers and things that you shouldn't bring it on one knee with a boys to men song playing in the background in a preferably candle lit room(refer to the Keg, Applebees or Red lobster!)
No! I like quiet, but i could do dinner and stuff, that can be worked in!
Just putting it out there!
But I'd much rather a favorite movie of mine or his, even though we've seen it a thousand and one times, and dinner, maybe a poem in there, maybe
Do you know that poetry written by 'non-poets' are the cutest things ever!
Only because its very sincere and honest and lacks all the unnecessary frills poets put on things like 'hips like the dunes of the Sahara' or 'voice like the Nile'..
lol
Lemme know what you guys think..
what are you planning to do this valentines, whats on your wish list?
Do you believe in the Vals day massacre?
Tell Tell!!

Playing wiv Fire

I'm playing with Fire and I cant stop
I see the flames but its kinda fun!
You know how you strike a match and watch it burn to the tip and quickly shake your hand before it gets to the tip of your fingers?
But has it ever happened that you got so caught up in watching the flames burn that you forgot the plan and it burnt the tip of your finger?
Thats where we are stuck
Having so much fun watching it burn that it just might get to the tip of our fingers before we realize
Listen now!
Not the fire that dances back, giggling as you slide your fingers through it from left to right
Yes, Candle light reciprocates love, yes
you make like a cave with your hands and watch it dance around
with your fingers you sentence it to death
but still this meek, playful candle can turn Judas on you
leave it unwatched, unmonitored and the once playful flames roar up like lions and consume all that you have, maybe you too.
We are playing with fire and we know it!
Tipping dangerously to the edge of the rim
I advice that we stop now, before it consumes us!!!
My patience with Nigeria is beginning to wear
President is missing, is he dead?
We dont know?
How is it possible that we have a president so ill in the first place? Dont they do health checks and things?
Its embarrassing
Nigeria is playing with fire and i wish she'd stop
Theres an extent to how much our neighbourhood, Africa can tolerate or even the rest of the world
President is issuing a statement to BBC when AIT and NTA have not seen his break lights?
Senators are in the news, naked in shrines holding human heads
COMMON NOW!
I'm not sm1 to nag or complain i dont like it, but I'm tired!
Banks in confused state, can you imagine this
A bank exec steals money and runs away, but then the police arrest the poor ppl that worked under him, sayin, 'when he returns with the money, we'll release you'
Thats not fair, but its the system
Governors stashing up their accounts while their state suffers, no education, no amenities, no defence.
My friend always says Nigeria has been molested raped and beaten up
She's in a bad bad bad marriage and even if she got divorced today it would take years of therapy to get her sanity back.
I'm tired of making jokes about the legal system, education, amenities....
Nigeria is playing with fire and I wish she'd stop
Only now did ppl begin to trust her, maybe she's not all 419 after all and e-mail scams
Oh but what happens
Some goat head goes to stash knock out in his underwear!
Now they've added terrorist to her already long list of names
I wish she'd stop
I keep fighting for her, but I'm beginnig to doubt that she wants that
Dehumanizing experiences i face whenever I want to travel, and can I complain?
I wish she'd stop
Religious riots in Jos....
EFCC files Waziri lost
Oil money lost to Oversea Accounts
I wish she'd stop so future generations can have a chance

2010 Only Just started................

So here I am.......
typing up my first post for the year, when i get a phone call that I have been honored on a blog
Can u imagine that?
lil ol me!
which brings me to say :But I only Just started!
I made a copy of the blog only because of this semi-anonymity game that I'm still playing
2010 only just started and I LOVE IT
I made the decision to move the character in my novel to an imaginary town....whoever said writing about what you know is easy, LIED,
The performances for the charity event that I'm organising are awesome!!AWESOME
all but the weather actually in my life.....is AWESOME
I'm excited for the year...and this time I made no resolutions!
Following last year, I made no resolutions, but detailed plans as to how I'd like to accomplish my goals for the year n that worked out beyond my expectations
k...so here's a summary of the story ttyl!!!

"(MMR) is one of the most gifted African Speakers & Writers of our generation.
This ** year old(smile) is a native of Ogun State, Nigeria; and an Undergraduate Student of Marketing of the U of W.
Dont be deceived by her petite stature, (which is probably & literally the smallest thing about her), she is a very friendly, highly opinionated young Lady. Also a trailblazer, high achiever and go-getter.
To her nothing is impossible. Right from middle and high school in VFMC, she was the first & only Day Student Senior Perfect; and an outstanding Scholar.
She is presently the President of The U of W's African Union, and recently dubbed the title of Competent Communicator (CC) by Toastmasters International."

...And the fat lady sings....

Cant believe '09 is gone
like, I remember the 31st of '08, the anxiety of what 09 was going to bring and now, the same butterflies float in my belly for the upcoming year.
I must say tho, I love my life
I love 09
In, 09 I stepped into my life.
I completed my first novel, became the President of the African students Association at my university, secured a position in the Toastmasters International Hall of Fame, got the recognition of my school of business, became a leader at church and figured out what i wanted my blog to be about...sigh
So I'm not anxious in the fear of the unknown, its more like how much more can I accomplish!
I feel like I'm siting on top of a roller coaster, like the behemoth, just waiting for it to drop
In other news, i bumped into my diary
A diary that I started when i was 13, till I was bout 18
lol
My 13 year old self was soo cute, I miss her
I wish she could remain so cute and things, but life happens
I found my 13-18 year old self, interestingly interesting
if I am allowed to say that
and I can code
damn!
It took me a minute n half to figure out some of the things that I wrote!
lol
and I had funny slangs like 'shi shi' meaning something
hmm, i might just reuse it in '10
I found my diary an amazingly interesting read, I could feel the sand in my toes in parts and hear the pain in others, the laughter and the tears, so much so that I want to begin the habit all over again
Writing my brain on a sheet of paper
my heart in a locked book.
Revisit myself from time to time.
I impressed myself immensely with my writings so much so that I even thought of writing a diary novel or sorts, of course my characters would be pure fiction, but it was such a fun read!
Do you keep diaries? Have you ever gone back to read them? if you havent please try it, write yourself a note or a poem and go back and read it when you're 50
I think its pure bliss.
And I dont mean to restate the already stated but I feel like my diary is me preserved
I mean, my loves, my laughs, my tears, my commitments
Funny,
I'll quote something I wrote
"... I've always had dreams of being big, I mean, achieving great things, see now I'm the head girl, after this, I dont think the corporate world can be so hard to overtake! Anywaiz(been saying that for years now!)If that doesnt work out, I would like to be an author, interior decorator, fashion designer, marketing manager, like a p. diddy merged with a jay z, kinda thing, sigh that was a mouthful!
Seriously I would love to do all these things I love now, but most importantly I want to care, I want to help people, be someone people can talk to, and call on for help, dependable and trustworthy, CEO or not.
Now you listen to me, older Devine reading this, I most sincerely do not want to read this years from now and feel sad or ashamed because I totally deviated or lost interest in doing these things especially if its for monetary reasons..."
HAPPY HOLIDAYS ALL
THANKS FOR BEING HERE ALL OF '09, IF NOT FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND 'FOLLOWER SHIP' LOL...I DOUBT I'D BE BLOGGING NOW.
THANKS GUYS!

~SOMETHING BLUE~

Hi guys
I'm soo sorry, I went away for long
2 posts in November, sigh.
I'm so ashamed
I wish I could blame twitter but I'm still anti-twitter, its that or facebook, and I'm sticking to the more mordern, less perverted, Hi-5!
Been seeing a lot of movies lately, I'm not really a t.v person and even less a movie person, but I'm liking the new experience, watching movies in my spare time is fun, havent quiet gotten the t.v part yet. So please feel free to tell me what you think the best shows on t.v are, got 2weeks of 'not-much' to do, and spending the holidays alone.
Yes, alone!
Why does everyone act like spending Christmas alone is such a huge deal!
I mean all the movies on t.v suck, practically everywhere is closed, especially if you live in the middle of no where like me!
Ok, it does get boring, but I still like it.
N no, I'm not a saddist, but 'the holidays' is about the only time in the year I get to be alone, in my head, just me, reflecting, chilling, and I like it.!
This year though I've got work to do!
I'm challenging myself to finish my novel, 'Something Blu', before the winter semester begins, i.e 2weeks.
I only just started and I'm not rushing to meet any deadline, I'm just pushing myself a little and seeing if I'll tip over
:)
There's no person better to challenge you than yourself, I say!
Another smiley face!
Thats the plan, write, watch suggested t.v shpws, go see movies, eat, write, blah blah blah.

So, here's a lil bit from my novel, Something Blue, enjoy!!
BTW, starting up a new blog in 2010, for my writings, songs, poetry, short stories, etc, if you'd like to join me, e-mail, be_e@hotmail.com
That said, enjoy!

~SOMETHING BLUE~

She sat facing the charts in an otherwise bland and sterile looking room.

The nurse smiled at her, the way nurses do, overly pleasant, knowing the worst but faking care and reassurance.

“The doctor will be with you shortly” she smiled again

“Please take off your garments and put this on.”

Morenike really hadn’t intended on being rude by hissing, she just thought it bothersome that after she’d taken her time to actually look good, she had to get naked.

“Oh well, maybe not everything” the nurse forced a laugh.

Maybe it wasn’t forced, maybe Morenike was just irritated, maybe it was because Aunt Bunmi had called 'them', nurses, doctors, lawyers, all white people in fact, a bunch of slithering snakes.

“Ah, they will just kill you! Like that” Aunt Bunmi would snap her fingers.

“Me, I don’t trust them, oh.” She’d continue.

Morenike sighed, wondering why the woman thought it necessary to begin or end her sentences with, ah’s, oh’s, shebi and the thousands of other Yoruba sayings that had absolutely no meaning.

“Madam?”

“Huh?”

“Are you okay?”

“I’m in a hospital, figure it out!”

Did she imagine a pained expression or was this oyinbo woman trying to make her feel bad?

“I said, you can leave your shirt on, but please take off your underwear, both of them.”

The smile was gone. Aunty Bunmi was right.

She shut the door as Morenike began to take her clothes off.

She sat on the cold leathery bed, her bare bum on the thin paper lining.

“Good afternoon, Miss Morenike!” the doctor walked in, with the same smile.

Morenike hissed again, “It’s Mo-reh-ni-keh, not more-nike!”

“If you don’t know how to pronounce a name, don’t or ask.”

“I’m so sorry” she rushed, staring at the chart like the name would explain itself.

Now it was Morenike’s turn to fake a smile and say, "It’s okay, it’s a Nigerian name. What’s your name?”

“Roseanne. Dr Roseanne Belford.” She smiled, not plastic, but a genuine smile that hoped they could start over.

“So Moh-rey-ni-kay, I see you would like to have a physical done. When was you last physical?”

Morenike chuckled, she still didn't say it right, but she gave her points for trying.

“When I applied for a visa.”

Three years on Wednesday.

“And when was that?”

“Two years and some.”

“Okay.”

“I’m just going to run you through some quick questions, before we begin, okay?”

Morenike chuckled again.

What if she said no?

“Sure.”

Dr Belford went ahead to ask a survey-worth of questions, ending just as Morenike became irritable.

“Okay!” she smiled, shutting the green folder and pulling a blue one out.

“This is for whatever information I gather from your body” she said answering Morenike’s unspoken question.

“So Morenike, how do you like Canada so far?”

“I can’t complain.”

Dr Belford stopped as if taken aback by her response.

“I mean its okay.”

“But you like Nigeria more, don’t you?”

Morenike rolled her eyes. Attempting to make conversation while a woman massaged her breasts was making her uncomfortable.

“Yea, I like it more.”

“Okay Morenike, what I’d like you to do for me is slide down and place your head on the rest, there.”

“Exactly. Thank you.”

Morenike tried to think of random thoughts as the doctor opened and closed cabinets.

“Are you sexually active, Morenike?”

She pronounced it this time as More-nikeh, wedging the ‘reh’ to the ‘n’as if it was a vowel.

More that concerned her than her mispronounced name, was the question.

Now the term seemed stupid to her.

‘Sexually active’, like it was a usual verb like, walk, or sit.

Her tongue stuck to the roof of her mouth, hanging there as if fearing to reply.

It’d been raining that night Aunt Bunmi crept in her room, saying, “You want visa, yes?”

She’d been to happy, too eager, Morenike should have known.

She sat up as Aunt Bunmi held the lantern up to her face.

“Well, if you want to travel, eh, you have to play a little game for Aunty.”

Morenike was sixteen and didn't need to be pacified.

“Aunty Bunmi, what is it?”

“I’m doing this for you, because I love you oh!”

What she didn't include was that her father had trusted her with more than enough for her to school abroad but she’d spent it all.

She held the lantern higher and as the light spread further, Morenike saw him, lurking in the shadows.

Aunt Bunmi was smiling again, that selfish smile she had when she was extremely satisfied with herself.

Morenike had begged, screamed and clawed to no avail.

Lying on Dr Belford’s bed, she could hear his grunts and feel his clammy, sweaty body on her.

A month later, she was on a plane to Canada.

“Morenike?”

“Yes?”

“Are you sexually active?”

“Yes, no! Maybe, no!”

Dr Belford frowned.

“Have you had sexual intercourse before?”

Morenike sighed, “Yes.”

“Okay.”

Dr Belford spread her legs apart and frowned at, what her gym teacher had called ‘down there’ as her cheeks turned pink.

Morenike felt a slight sense of panic but mostly pain as Dr Belford slid something into her.

“Ops, sorry. Seems like there’s been no activity here for a while” she chuckled from down there.

Morenike frowned.

No activity there for a while, was it a bus stop? Or did men sign their names on the wall?

It was becoming an unbearably embarrassing day.

“Morenike?”

“Uh huh?”

“When was your last period?”

“I don’t remember.”

“When was your last sexual encounter?”

Another term, ‘sexual encounter’, like she bumped into it at the flea market.

“About a month ago, why?”

“Hmm.” Was all she said.

“Hmm?” Morenike repeated.

“Morenike, I’m going to ask you to do a pregnancy test for me, okay?”

Morenike found it funny, how she said, ‘for me’ like she was the one who had to take the test.

“Sure!”

She’d taken one before. She knew the procedure.

They made her take them, whenever she reported missed periods

“Just to be sure” they’d say.

And every time she took one, she felt that dual emotion, the one where you know you’ve done nothing that could make you pregnant, but what if?

“We are done here!” she took off her gloves and smiled.

“All you have to do, is go to the bathroom, give it to the nurse at the desk and come back here. It takes five minutes, okay?” another smile

She reminded her of a toothpaste billboard in Lagos, just as you got off the third mainland bridge. Over-smiling for free toothpaste, Aunt Bunmi said.

“Where’s the bathroom?”

“Down the hall, on your right”

“Okay”.

Her heart violently trembled in its cage as she walked down the hall.

Had it really been a month ago, since she had to attach the sticky end of a towel to her underwear?

Had it really been a month since she’d seen him?

She’d filled up the little plastic container, the nurses hated it when she did.

'What ifs?' Like the little butterflies that land on her palm in summer, flew past her ears.

Morenike shrugged them off as she washed her hands.

She handed the nurse the container, “Dr Belford said I should give you.”

“Me?”

Morenike smiled, “not you in particular, she sad a nurse.”

The nurse wrinkled her nose, “This is way too much, we only need a little.”

“I know.” Morenike smiled back.

It was the longest five minutes of her life, in which she re-examined every detail of that night.

Bethany, the girl that lived across the hall had knocked on her door.

She’d been making palm oil stew. She wiped her hands on her apron as she stared through the peephole.

“Hi, Beth”.

“Hey, Nike!”

She remembered the first day she told Bethany her name, she’d replied with a puzzled expression, “Why are you named after a sports brand?”

She usually tolerated Beth’s company but tonight, all she wanted was to crawl up on her sofa and watch a Nigerian movie.

“Nike, I need to a favour. Can my friend sleep over at you place till my cousin’s wedding on Saturday?” she quickly said.

Why couldn’t Beth be a ‘can I borrow sugar?’ neighbour?

“Please, Nike. I’d like owe you forever and ever.”

Oyinbo people sha” she said with a smile.

“Look at you half oyinbo!” Beth laughed.

Pronouncing it as if the ‘n’ wasn’t there.

“Sure, but only till Saturday”

“Oh, Nike, have I ever told you how much I love you?”

“I’m going to pick him up from the bus station in half an hour, thank you!”

“Him?” the blood drained from her face.

“Oh, and save me some of the red oil stew.” She blew her a kiss and scurried into her apartment.

Morenike sighed and plated her food.

“Him?”
